Dos Pueblos’ Kaleb Williams, San Marcos’ Elena Thomas Named Athletes of the Week

Kaleb Williams rushed Dos Pueblos football to its first league win on Friday while Elena Thomas spearheaded the offensive attack in a big win over Santa Barbara last week to earn Athlete of the Week honors.

Williams and Thomas were honored at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

In a dominating 55-0 win over Channel Islands, Williams turned in an efficient rushing performance, taking seven carries for 148 yards for a whopping 21 yards per carry. 

He also punched in three rushing touchdowns to help get the Chargers into the win column in Channel League play.

Thomas, meanwhile, racked up 15 kills in a rivalry four-set win over Santa Barbara High as the Royals continue to fight for a postseason spot.

Following the performance against the Dons, Thomas led the team with 19 kills in a five-set loss to first-place Ventura.

The honorable mentions for the boys were Jaden Moore (Dos Pueblos Boys Water Polo), Reggie Robles (Dos Pueblos Boys Water Polo), Sky Korling (Carpinteria Boys Water Polo) and Koa Herrera (Santa Barbara Football).

For the girls, the honorable mentions were Melanie Davidson (Cate Volleyball), Cora Loomer (San Marcos Volleyball), Gwen Chenoweth (Santa Barbara Volleyball), Sagarika Manian (Dos Pueblos Golf), Rio Chesluk (San Marcos Flag Football) and Brooklyn Hedricks (Dos Pueblos Flag Football).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday morning, if possible.
