Dos Pueblos’ Jayden Jones, Santa Barbara High’s Kai Mault Named Athletes of the Week

Dos Pueblos volleyball’s Jayden Jones and Santa Barbara High football’s Kai Mault led their respective teams to statement wins last week, earning themselves the title of Athlete of the Week.

Jones and Mault were honored at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

In a crucial five-set victory over San Marcos, Jones provided her team with a spark, tallying a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs to go along with a pair of aces.

Later in the week, Jones collected 14 digs, five kills and three aces in a 3-2 loss to Ventura.

On the football field, Mault made a big impact on both sides of the ball in the Dons’ 28-10 win over Ventura, who was previously undefeated going into the matchup.

Offensively, he had a 72-yard passing touchdown and a pair of catches. On defense, Mault had a 62-yard pick six, three total tackles, three passes defended, one quarterback pressure and one bat down.

The honorable mentions on the girls side were Kiala Haas (San Marcos Cross Country), Sagarika Manian (Dos Pueblos Golf), Sonia Mancuso (Dos Pueblos Volleyball), Eliana Urzua (Bishop Diego Volleyball), Gianna Nichols (Dos Pueblos Flag Football) and Katie Peterson (Dos Pueblos Flag Football).

Meanwhile, the male honorable mentions were Sam Rich (San Marcos Water Polo) and Andreas Dybdahl (Santa Barbara Cross Country).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday morning, if possible.
