SBCC Basketball’s Aidan Mandel, Santa Barbara Wrestler Pepper Marks Honored as Athletes of the Week

Santa Barbara High wrestler Pepper Marks and Aidan Mandel of the SBCC men’s basketball team were named the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Marks improved her season match record to 12-0 after winning her division title at the Hueneme Showdown at the Shore Tournament.

She won four matches, three by pin and another by a 16-0 technical fall.

Marks is a defending CIF-SS champion and is ranked fourth in the state, according to her coach Marc Fidel.

Mandel had a big week at the annual SBCC Classic.

In three games, he averaged 24 points on 60.1% shooting, nine rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals.

He scored 23 points on 11-15 shooting in SBCC’s 7-57 win over L.A. Valley in the tournament’s third-place game.

The honorable mention choices for the award the this week were Leonel Olivo (San Marcos boys soccer), Tyler Martinez (Cate boys basketball), Carson Stewart (Laguna Blanca boys basketball), Amarisse Camargo (Carpinteria girls basketball) and Ava Stryker (San Marcos water polo).

The Athletes of the Week are chosen by members of the local media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be submitted to sports@noozhawk.com by 10 a.m. on Sunday.
