Dos Pueblos water polo’s Lucas Neushul and Santa Barbara High volleyball’s Paylin Marcillac played instrumental roles in big wins last week to earn the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors.

The pairing was celebrated at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Neushul played a key role in the Chargers winning their first-ever Santa Barbara Invitational title, a tournament with many highly-ranked programs and 24 total teams.
After contributing two goals in a win over Mater Dei and three more in a victory over Westlake, he ripped off a team-high nine goals, including the overtime game-winner, in a 17-16 championship victory over Laguna Beach.
Meanwhile, Marcillac was all over the court for the Dons in a sweep of Dos Pueblos and a five-set victory over Ventura High in the Channel League-opening match.
She totaled 44 digs across the two matches, while also chipping in eight aces from the service line. She ended the week with a 2.2 pass rating and collected 41 serve-receive receptions.
The boys honorable mentions were Tommy Diaz (SM Football), Cade Mault (SB Football), Griffin Arnold (SB Football), Soren Smedley (DP Football), Grant Nelson (DP Water Polo) and Brandon Lee (SM Water Polo).
The girls honorable mentions were Ruby Streatfeild (DP Flag Football), Elina Stump (SB Flag Football), Karina Urzua (Bishop Volleyball), Natalie Chan (Bishop Volleyball) and Lauren Kenny (Laguna Volleyball).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to [email protected] by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
