Dos Pueblos baseball’s Jesse Di Maggio and Elina Stump of Santa Barbara High Track & Field put together strong showings last week to earn the Athlete of the Week awards.
Di Maggio and Stump will be honored at next week’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Opposing pitchers had plenty of trouble with Di Maggio last week, as he went 6-for-6 and reached base nine times across three games for the Chargers.
The senior roped a pair of home runs while driving in five runs and scoring five of his own as part of his offensive explosion.
Stump put on a show at the Don Green Invite in her second meet of the season, placing in three different events.
She claimed first place in the triple jump with a length of 33-3, finished second in the long jump at 15-7 and registered fourth place in the 100-meter race with a time of 12.67 seconds.
The boys honorable mentions were Derek Brunet (Dos Pueblos Baseball), Quinn Pullen (Cate Baseball), Wes Chung (Carpinteria Track), Jack Wilson (San Marcos Volleyball), Wyatt Silver (Dos Pueblos Volleyball), Daniel Finneran (Dos Pueblos Lacrosse), Johnny Foster (Cate Lacrosse) and Cody Mast (Cate Lacrosse).
Meanwhile, the girls honorable mentions were Charlotte Hastings (San Marcos Softball), Kaitlyn Ashby (Dos Pueblos Softball), Georgia Wilson (Dos Pueblos Softball), Lauren Weeks (Bishop Diego Softball), Tessa Johansen (Bishop Diego Softball), Alice Sperling (Dos Pueblos Lacrosse) and Sadi Adams (San Marcos Lacrosse).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday morning, if possible.
The award is sponsored by the law firm of Maho-Prentice.
