Round Table Luncheon: Andreas Dybdahl Named Santa Barbara High’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Andreas Dybdahl received Santa Barbara High’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year award at the final Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon of the calendar year on Monday.

Along with Dybdahl’s recognition, local high school soccer teams gave updates to begin their respective league seasons and the local college basketball teams were represented.

The luncheon was held at Harry’s Plaza Cafe and the guest hosts were Rich and Sally Ridgeway.

Santa Barbara High Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Dybdahl added to his already-expansive trophy collection, this time being honored for his performance on the trails and tracks along with his efforts in the classroom.

A state champion in the 1,600-meter and a cross country Division 2 CIF-SS individual champion, the UCLA commit also boasts a 4.4 GPA while taking plenty of advanced placement classes.

“His demeanor is so professional and he’s just a wonderful kid to coach,” Dons coach Rusty Snow said. “That will 100% translate to the rest of his life.

“I’m absolutely honored and proud to have coached Andreas and I’m looking forward to the spring.”

While he will be running for the Bruins he plans to study business or economics, as he has an interest in both finance and math.

Outside of the classroom, Dydbahl worked community service hours for Victory Sessions, a surf club, and the Santa Barbara Half Marathon.

“I just wanted to thank my parents, my coaches and everyone who was there this season,” Dybdahl said. “Running takes a lot of work, thanks so much Rusty for sacrificing a lot for me. You spent so much time trying to make me the best and I really appreciate it.”

Dybdahl joins Cate’s Sebastian Sutch, Dos Pueblos’ Jaden Moore and San Marcos’ Matthew Chung as this year’s recipients of the award.

The honor is sponsored by Marc Gamberdella of the Gamderbella-Spruill Group of Merrill Lynch.
