Dos Pueblos boys water polo standout Jaden Moore was named the school’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon.
The award is sponsored by Marc Gamberdella of the Gamberdella-Spruill Group of Merrill Lynch.
Moore plays on Dos Pueblos’ varsity swim team along with the boys water polo squad. Last season, he was named to the Division II Boys Water Polo CIF First Team and earned the team’s MVP award.
“I’m very proud of Jaden and he’s well deserving of this award,” Chargers water polo coach Chris Parrish said.
While he is elite in the pool, Moore may succeed even more in the classroom. The senior boasts an impressive 4.97 GPA as a member of the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy. That GPA is the highest of any male athlete on Dos Pueblos’ campus.
He is interested in pursuing mechanical engineering in college and is applying to several prestigious universities.
“Jaden is obviously an incredible athlete… but what’s more incredible about him is that he is an old soul, he is turning a little bit away from athletics to focus on his future,” Parrish said. “He’s focusing on engineering and robotics rather than pursuing sports and that’s a really good lesson for the rest of the team.”
Moore has led his team to an 11-5 record this season.
“I want to thank all my coaches, teachers and teammates for supporting me both on the academic and athletic fronts, they’ve really pushed me to do my best,” Moore said. “I’d also like to thank my parents for supporting me in all my hobbies and endeavors that have shaped my dreams to become an engineer.”
As for the rest of the luncheon, local high school football, boys water polo, girls flag football and girls golf teams gave updates on their seasons as the fall sports calendar has begun to wind down.
Most of the teams will conclude their seasons by the end of the month, but plenty of teams have their eye on the playoffs.
With the second half of fall sports upon schools, games and matches have become much more intense and there are plenty of rivalry matchups in the coming weeks with postseason implications to look forward to.
