Dos Pueblos came away with both of this week’s Athlete of the Week awards as Sagarika Manian and Jaden Moore were honored at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Manian, a girls golf star, won her third straight Channel League Individual title while Moore, a boys water polo senior, led his team in scoring in all seven of their games last week.
The Channel League title gives Manian three championships in as many years as a Charger.
This year, she earned the title after she shot a 77 at the par 72 Soule Park Course last Monday to lead the pack.
Moore, meanwhile, was a consistent offensive force for the Chargers all week en route to earning the award, leading the team in goals scored in three games throughout the week and all four tournament games over the weekend.
Highlighting the scoring barrage for Moore were a four-goal, three-assist performance in a Senior Day win against Righetti and a five-goal game in a 15-5 victory over Northwood.
The girls honorable mentions were Jayla Provance (Laguna Blanca Golf), Oyin Opawumi (Cate Volleyball), Amrisse Camargo (Carpinteria Volleyball) and Ale Alcocer Vasquez (Santa Barbara Flag Football).
On the boys’ side, the honorable mentions were Nic Prentice (San Marcos Water Polo), Lorenzo Russell (Santa Barbara Water Polo), Oscar Mauia (Bishop Diego Football), Abel Renteria (Santa Barbara Football) and Koa Herrera (Santa Barbara Football).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday morning, if possible.
