Bishop Diego’s Isaiah Kitt, Dos Pueblos’ Mel Mayo Named Athletes of the Week

Bishop Diego football’s Isaiah Kitt and Dos Pueblos tennis’ Mel Mayo had standout weeks to earn the Athlete of the Week honors at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Kitt, a linebacker and running back, played a major role in the Cardinals’ victory over Simi Valley on Friday that earned the team a spot in the playoffs.

With Bishop Diego up 21-20 with just a few minutes left in the game, the Simi Valley offense was driving deep into Cardinals’ territory.

Then, on back-to-back plays, Kitt came up with a clutch sack and an interception to effectively clinch the win.

Kitt and Bishop Diego will host a Division 7 playoff game on Friday against Redondo Union.

Meanwhile, Mayo won the Channel League Singles Championship last week to continue her stellar season.

Mayo faced off against her Charger teammate Ellie Triplett in the championship matchup, with Mayo coming out on top 6-3, 6-3.

With the win, she will represent the Channel League in the CIF-SS Individuals Championship on Nov. 20.

The boys honorable mentions were Eamon Gordon (Dos Pueblos Cross Country), Sam Rich (San Marcos Water Polo), Tua Rojas (Bishop Diego Football), Oscar Mauia (Bishop Diego Football) and Koa Herrera (Santa Barbara Football).

On the girls side, the honorable mentions were Kiala Haas (San Marcos Cross Country), Gianna Nichols (Dos Pueblos Flag Football) and Brooklyn Hedricks (Dos Pueblos Flag Football).
