Dos Pueblos’ Halle Rillie, Danny Vidaure Named Athletes of the Week

It was a big week for Dos Pueblos, as Halle Rillie’s performance on the volleyball court all week and Danny Vidaure’s big rushing game against Nordhoff on Friday earned the Charger pairing the Athletes of the Week honor.

The awards were presented on Monday at the second Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Cafe.

As Dos Pueblos’ setter, Rillie made her impact felt all week for the Chargers. She did it all in a sweeping win over St. Joseph, tallying 14 assists, eight aces, six digs and three kills.

She then stepped up in a rivalry matchup against San Marcos, contributing on the offensive end with 12 points in a dramatic 3-2 win.

Meanwhile, Vidaure played a key role in Dos Pueblos’ 28-25 win over Nordhoff on Friday.

Operating as one of the team’s lead running backs, Vidaure racked up 80 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. On top of his effort on offense, Vidaure was a force on the defensive side of the ball.

His blitz rush in the fourth quarter caused a fumble to put the Chargers in great field position with minutes left.

The other females considered for the award were Josie Gamberdella (San Marcos Volleyball), Stella Borgioli (Santa Barbara Volleyball), Brooklyn Hedricks (Dos Pueblos Flag Football), Gianna Nichols (Dos Pueblos Flag Football) and Caro Esparza (Santa Barbara Flag Football).

The male honorable mentions included Reggie Robles (Dos Pueblos Water Polo), Quinn Donnell (San Marcos Football), Kaleb Williams (Dos Pueblos Football) and Sebastian Hernandez (Carpinteria Football).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday, if possible.
