Dos Pueblos baseball’s Joe Talarico and Maddie Nees of the Chargers’ girls lacrosse team have been named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
The student athletes will be recognized at the Monday, April 3 SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe. There was no luncheon this Monday due to spring break for schools in the Santa Barbara Unified School District.
Nees played a spectacular game in goal for DP in a crosstown game against San Marcos. She made 13 saves, helping the Chargers win 11-3.
Talarico played a big part in Dos Pueblos beating Santa Barbara, 1-0.
He singled in the only run of the game in the first inning and then pitched the final 2.1 innings of relief to secure the shut-out win.
The honorable mention choices include Kacey Hurley (Dos Pueblos softball), Wade Nieman (Cate boys lacrosse), Jackson Melton (Carpinteria boys swimming) and Tyler Hughes (San Marcos boys lacrosse).
The Athletes of the Week are selected by members of the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Sunday at 12 p.m.
