Sagarika Manian of Dos Pueblos, Santa Barbara High’s Nathan Barrios Named Athletes of the Week

Dos Pueblos golfer Sagarika Manian and Nathan Barrios of the Santa Barbara High football team were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Manian won the Channel League individual championship for the second straight year. The sophomore shot an 87 over 18 holes at the River Ridge Victoria Lakes Course in Oxnard.

The title qualifies her for the CIF-SS Regional Individual Championship at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks on Wednesday.

Manian also helped Dos Pueblos win the Channel League team title and qualify for the CIF-SS Division 3 Team Championships on Oct. 31 at Los Serranos Country Club.

Barrios had monster game for Santa Barbara in its 42-17 victory at Buena in a battle of first-place teams in the Channel League.

The senior led a punishing running attack, rushing for 210 yards and four touchdowns. He clinched the victory with a 50-yard scoring run with 2:42 left in the game.

Barrios and the Dons can clinch a share of the league title with a win in the Big Game against San Marcos on Friday night at Warkentin Stadium.

The male honorable mention choices for this week include AJ Vele (Bishop Diego football), Jerrard Burford (Santa Barbara High water polo) and Andre McCullough (San Marcos football).

The other female candidates for the award were Riley Green (San Marcos volleyball) and Eliana Urzua (Bishop Diego volleyball).

The Athletes of the Week are determined by votes from members of the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving student athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Sunday.
