Gossett and Rillie were instrumental in leading their respective teams to winning outcomes last week.

Gossett had a monster performance in Bishop’s 61-20 rout of CIF Sac-Joaquin power Capital Christian of Sacramento. The senior running back rushed for 181 yards on just nine carries and scored five touchcowns. One of his scores was an electrifying 64yard jaunt, in which he broke several tackles, weaved in and out of traffic before finding blockers down field to lead him into the end zone.

Rillie, a sophomore, has taken charge of the offense in her first year on the DP varsity.

In a Channel League-opening win over Ventura, she dished out 37 assists, had seven kills and eight digs. Earlier in the week, she finished with 28 assists, three digs, two kills and a service ace in a sweep at Oak Park.

The female honorable meniton choices for the award were Nicole Buist (Santa Barbara High tenns), Victoria Chen (Dos Pueblos golf) and  Heidi Collins (SBCC volleyball).

The male athletes considered for the honor include Abel Renteria (Santa Barbara High football), Patrick Kelly (San Marcos football) and Jaden Moore (Dos Pueblos water polo).

The Athlete of the Week Award is determined by a vote of the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to submit nominations of deserving student athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com

The award is sponsored by the law firm of Maho-Prentice.
