UCSB Basketball’s Ila Lane, Vincent Rinaldi of Carpinteria Track Named Athletes of the Week

Carpinteria track & field standout Vincent Rinaldi and UCSB women’s basketball star Ila Lane were named the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.

Lane recorded her third 20-point, 20-rebound double-double in a 55-47 Big West victory over Long Beach State on Saturday. 

The 6-foot-4 freshman from Woodside Priory High is the national leader in total rebounds with 373, ranks second in total rebound average at 13.3 per game and in defensive rebounds (266 for a 9.5 average). She is tied for fourth in double doubles with 19.

Rinaldi started the track season on a high note, setting a meet record of 22.88 seconds in winning the 200 meters at the Rincon Races at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium. He also took the 100 in 11.32.

The other male athletes considered for the award included: Randy DeWeese (UCSB volleyball), Zach Torra (UCSB baseball) and Justin Bessard (Westmont basketball).

The female honorable mention choices were Avery Ball (Dos Pueblos lacrosse) and Savannah Alvarez (Carpinteria track & field).
