Clutch individual performances from rivalry contests between Santa Barbara High and San Marcos were recognized with Athlete of the Week awards during Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Paige Ingram of the San Marcos girls soccer team and Santa Barbara High boys basketball player Jasper Johnson were honored for helping their respective teams prevail in their crosstown games over the weekend.

Johnson knocked down the game-winning shot off a lob pass just before the final buzzer to give the Dons a stunning 45-43 victory over San Marcos before a packed crowd at the SBCC Sports Pavilion on Friday night.

Johnson, who came off the bench, also knocked down a trio of three-pointers and scored 15 points.

In a 1-0 win over Santa Barbara, Ingram delivered the game-winning goal for San Marcos on a shot from nearly 50 yards.

“That just shows her instincts and how genius that play was. She’s just a smart player,” said San Marcos coach Jennifer Sotelo.

The female honorable mention choices were Coco Miller (UCSB basketball), Iyree Jarrett (Westmont basketball) and Kate Gay (Carpinteria water polo).

The other male athletes considered for the award include Abram Carrasco (Westmont) and Buba Fofanah (Cate).
