Carpinteria Basketball’s Dylan O’Neill, Kenzi Snyder of UCSB Water Polo Named Athletes of Week

Carpinteria basketball player Dylan O’Neill and UCSB water polo goaie Kenzi Snyder have been named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table’s Athletes of the Week.

Kenzi Snyder, UCSB water polo
Dylan O’Neill, Carpinteria basketball.

The pair will be honored at the Monday, Jan. 27 Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe. There was no luncheon this Monday because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

Snyder played a huge role in UCSB’s 9-8 upset of No. 2-ranked UCLA in the Gauchos’ Winter Invitational. She made nine saves, held the Bruins scoeless in the second and third periods and made some clutch stops down the stretch to help UCSB beat UCLA for only the second time in 44 meetings and first time since 1995.

O’Neill had a big week, leading Carpinteria to a pair of Citrus Coast League wins.  He hit a game-winning three-pointer with 0.9 seconds left to beat Hueneme, 63-61, and finished with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. He had another double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds along with six steals and three assists in a 79-61 victory over Santa Paula.

The other male athletes considered for the award include Jorge Ochoa (Santa Barbara High soccer), Adam Luckhurst (Bishop Diego soccer), Logan O’Keefe (Santa Barbara wrestling) and Sean Yamasaki (Dos Pueblos wrestling).

The female honorable mention choices are Pepper Marks (Santa Barbara wrestling), Hannia Hernandez (Carpinteria basketball) and Cassidy Miller (San Marcos water polo).
