Hicks did a masterful job at point guard and scored 14 point for the Royals in their 47-44 win over Santa Barbara High last Saturday night before a full house at the SBCC Sports Pavilion. The win puts them in a tie for first place in the Channel League with the Dons at 5-1.

Earlier in the week, Hicks scored 18 points on six three-point baskets, including four in the second half, of a 50-41 comeback win at Cabrillo.

Hernandez led Carpinteria to a pair of Citrus Coast League victories. On Thursday, she scored 23 points and made a clutch breakaway layup in the final seconds of a 51-47 win over Nordhoff.

On Tuesday, she made four three-pointers in the first period en route to 20 points in a 60-32 victory over Malibu.

The female honorable mention choices include Hayden Randolph (Santa Barbara High soccer) and Kamila Picket (Dos Pueblos soccer).

The other male athletes considered for this week’s award were Luca Wahlberg (Laguna Blanca soccer), Tommy Condon (San Marcos basketball) and Max Heidegger (UCSB basketball).

Also recognized Monday were last week’s Athlete of the Week winners: Dylan O’Neill of the Carpinteria boys basketball team and UCSB water polo goalie Kenzi Snyder.
