Since 1972, when Jay Smith became a member of the Goleta Union School District Board of Trustees (and President,) he has volunteered his services to 24 organizations.
During that same period of time, he has served on 12 executive boards, and been named Chairman or President on 10 occasions.
As a point of reference, some of those 24 groups he has served are the SB Athletic Round Table, Goleta Valley Hospital, Goleta Valley Youth Sports Association, A YSO, Dos Pueblos High School Site Council, Santa Barbara School District Educational Foundation, Santa Barbara Foundation and La Cumbre Golf and Country Club (that tells you about his hobby.)
In his spare moments he works more than full time as the Senior Vice-President, General Counsel, and Secretary of Santa Barbara Bank and Trust.
The rest of his time is spent with his wife Sally, an Administrative Assistant at UCSB, daughter Julie, and son Taylor.
Modesty is one of Jay’s virtues, it is not easy to glean information about his volunteerism. Like the easy and anonymity with which he has administered the High Five Golf Tournament for the last nine years.
At the end of this year that event will have earned over a quarter million dollars for local high school athletics. That is not modest!
UC Berkeley and their Boalt Hall School of Law should be proud of this grad. The community of Santa Barbara is.
Somehow Community Leader seems too modest.
