Coach John Stoney had better watch his lefts and rights while driving in Santa Barbara or Tempe, Arizona. Police officers Todd Stoney and Lisa Stoney Busse just might be watching-especially tonight.
Following his graduation from Tucson High School in Arizona, John was an outstanding member of the Gaucho football program.
Since graduating from UCSB, John has been hon- ored for Outstanding Achievement and elected to the Gaucho Hall of Fame.
As Head Football Coach at San Marcos High School in 1965, he led the Royals to the school’s first victory over arch-rival Santa Barbara and followed that milestone a year later with an undefeated and untied season.
As the Head Golf Coach at San Marcos, he led his Royal teams to a 12 year Channel League record of nine championships, a 110-16-8 league record, an overall record of212-38-3, four CIF Championships and a California State Championship. Former players Steve Pate and Sam RandolphJr. are now playing on the professional tour.
In 1980 and 1984 he was named by the National High School Coaches Association as “Coach of the Year.” Stoney has become one of the outstanding football and basketball officials in the nation. Several CIF and NCAA football championships and many Division I games attest to his ability and judgement. John is presently in his 6th year as Athletic Director as San Marcos High School.
Joining him this evening is his wife, Pam, owner and operator of Heidi’s Hallmark in Santa Barbara.
