Meghan Moore Reardon was a powerhouse soccer player at Santa Barbara High.
In her four years on the pitch for the Dons, she poured in 88 goals and dished off 64 assists; she was twice named the Channel League MVP and was honored as the Santa Barbara County Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998.
She earned All-CIF honors in three seasons and was recognized as the Girls High School Player of the Decade by the Santa Barbara News-Press.
Moore’s great footwork and athleticism in soccer worked for her on the tennis court, too. She twice was named all-league in tennis.
Her tremendous soccer skills earned her a scholarship to Boston College, where she started all four years. BC was one of the top women’s programs in the country.
In her career with the Eagles, she totaled 26 points on 26 goals and 31 assists. She twice was named BC Offensive MVP, earned first-team All-Big East honors in 2000 and was named to the Northeast Regional All-American third team.
Moore was named team captain in 2001 and was selected to the New England Intercollegiate Soccer Association First Team.
Another prestigious award she earned at BC was the Tom McElroy Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to an athlete for excellence, moral courage and fortitude.
Twice in her collegiate career, Moore and the Eagles advanced to NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. One of her proudest moments was beating a top-10 ranked Harvard squad to reach the Sweet 16.
“It was a total team effort and it felt so good,” she says of the in-state rival.
Alison Foley, her coach at BC, called Moore “one of the best, if not the best, right midfielder we have ever had. Her blend of speed and fitness coupled with a right-footed service and rocket of a shot is of the highest quality. She can change a game on a dime. She is the epitome of a student-athlete whose excellence on the field was matched in the classroom. She is a wonderful person and leader.”
Moore played semi-pro soccer with the Boston Renegades of the United Soccer League’s W-League and won national championships in 2001 and 2002.
She earned all-tournament team honors in 2002.
Today, Moore lives in Bend, Ore., with her husband, Tim Reardon, and their two daughters: Hannah, 3, and Sadie, 8 months.
