Dos Pueblos’ 2005 CIF-champion softball team will always have a place in local athletics history and Kimi Wong was not just the Most Valuable Player of that team, but the entire CIF division as well.
The 2005 CIF title was the first in school history for Dos Pueblos’ proud softball program. Wong absolutely dominated that year, setting school records with 19 shutouts and 308 strikeouts. She had an ERA of 0.47 in over 30 starts. At the plate, she was second on the team in home runs and RBI. Wong came through in the title game, pitching a 1-0 shutout against Paramount while also driving in the winning run on a clutch late-inning hit.
Wong calls that CIF championship one of her proudest athletic achievements. Her time spent with her travel team, the Orange County Batbusters, is also dear to Wong. Pitching in a national championship game for her club team was one of her favorite sports moments.
Wong went on to play four years at Penn State.
The 2005 CIF championship year was the pinnacle of her prep career, but Wong was a varsity standout for four years. She was named Channel League MVP twice.
Her college career was highlighted by All-Academic Big Ten honors all four years. She left Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in Communications with a focus on advertising and a minor in Business & Liberal Arts.
Wong has returned to Santa Barbara to begin her post-athletic career, recently taking a new job as a CloudSuite Specialist for North America Programs.
