Faha Banks ran the show for two outstanding Santa Barbara High Girls’ basketball teams in the late 1980s.
With Banks at point guard, the 1988 Dons snapped Buena’s 64-game Channel League win streak, earned a share of the league title and advanced to the CIF Division 4-A semifinals.
The next season, she helped lead Santa Barbara to the Division 5-A championship game. She scored 25 points in a 63-49 loss to Hart. Banks averaged 14.5 points in her senior season, was selected to the All-CIF first team and named honorable mention All-American. She was recognized as the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Girls’ basketball player of the year.
Fast and athletic, Banks also was a standout for the Dons in softball and in track.
But basketball was her first love. She played at SBCC, where she later coached for three seasons.
She continued to make an impact in basketball in the community by starting the Blazers Girls’ basketball traveling team with former UCSB star Carrick DeHart.
Today, she is sharing her love of the game and all sports with her sons, Dallas Redick (13) and Mason Redick (8).
