Dos Pueblos High School star Don Hopwood set a 330 low hurdles record in Track and Field and was the Most Valuable Lineman Member of the Channel League Championship football team and was considered best team in school history for nearly 30 years.
At Santa Barbara City College, Hopwood received the Sack Award, spent two years as an All-Conference Defensive Lineman and earned Junior College All-American honors. Not surprisingly, the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table selected Don as Football Athlete ofthe Year.
Following his two year tenure with the Vaqueros, Hopwood led the UCLA Bruins in quarterback sacks at tackle. He was nominated to play in both the Hula Bowl and Japan Bowl. His Bruins team competed against a Lou Holtz coached Arkansas Razorbacks in the Fiesta Bowl. Following a successful Division I football career, Hopwood signed contracts with three different Professional Football Leagues: the CFL, NFL and USFL. He also played with the American Eagles Football Club in Eastern and Western Europe.
After coaching football at Friday Harbor High School, Bishop Diego High School and Santa Barbara City College, Hopwood now focuses on his work for Wachovia Dealer Services as the Regional Credit Manager in the Woodland Hills Regional Business Center.
Don is most proud of his three children Rebecca, David and Jennifer.
