A girls’ tennis standout at Santa Barbara High School and the Santa Barbara News- Press Women’s Tennis Player of the Decade, Amelia White-Escalante was a four-time channel league champ (1988-92) and awarded a full athletic scholarship to UCSB in 1992.
As a Gaucho, White-Escalante played No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles in her senior year. She attended NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships three times with her team and two times individually. A 1996 All-American selection, she reached the NCAA quarter-finals in 1996. She was ranked No. 2 in the nation in doubles in that same year. White-Escalante is married with two children – Ellie and Jake – and lives in Santa Cruz, Calif. In addition to being a full-time mom, she has been the head pro at a resort in the area for the last 10 years and coached a local girls’ high school team for the last three years.
