Dos Pueblos’ Matti Di Maggio, Emily Morici Named Athletes of the Week

The Dos Pueblos freshman duo of Matti Di Maggio and Emily Morici turned in standout performances on the diamond last week en route to Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors.

The pairing was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Di Maggio led the Charger baseball team to a 2-0 start in Channel League action with a sweep of Ventura and a win over Foothill Tech, going 6-for-9 at the plate with three home runs, three stolen bases, five RBI and eight runs scored.

The standout also fired three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four to help lift Dos Pueblos to a 6-5 win over Ventura to begin the week.

Morici and the Dos Pueblos softball team also secured a sweep of Ventura last week, beginning with Morici tossing a complete-game shutout and striking out five while also going 2-for-4 in a 10-0 win.

Later in the week, Morici allowed four runs and struck out nine in six innings of work in the circle and went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the batter’s box.

The boys honorable mentions were Mason Crang (SM Baseball), Dallas Bartholic (Carp Baseball), James King (SB Baseball), Ben Wojogbe (DP Volleyball), Matteo Burdick (SM Volleyball) and Andy Keenan (SM Golf).

The girls honorable mentions were Anastasia Brunner (DP Softball), Zella Cassidy (DP Softball), Josephine Grossman (SM Lacrosse), Jules Horton (SB Swim), Luna Morancey (SB Swim) and Izzy Scott (Carp Swim).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
