Dos Pueblos wrestling’s Brandon Velasquez and Carpinteria High track & field’s Vivian Huskins put up strong showings en route to Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors.

The pairing will be honored at next Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Velasquez was the lone Santa Barbara area wrestler to reach the CIF State Tournament last weekend, clinching his spot in the competitive 157-pound weight class.
He turned in a solid showing, going 1-2 and finishing in the top 20 of the 40-wrestler bracket. His victory came via a pin in the first round against the No. 4-ranked wrestler in the state.
Meanwhile, Huskins got her Citrus Coast League season started with a bang and she helped lead her Warriors to a victory over Santa Paula.
She placed first individually in the 100-meter and 200-meter races, while she joined a trio of her teammates to take first place in the 4×100-meter relay race.
The boys honorable mentions were Matti Di Maggio (DP Baseball), Zach Anthony (SB Baseball), Ben Wojogbe (DP Volleyball) and Austin Fauver (DP Lacrosse).
The girls honorable mentions were Anastasia Brunner (DP Softball), Julianna Brunner (DP Softball), Linnea Clapinski (DP Lacrosse), Charlotte Raisin (SM Water Polo) and Bethany King (SM Water Polo).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
