The duo will be honored at next week’s SBART Press Luncheon, as there is no luncheon this Monday due to Presidents’ Day.

Ono led all local wrestlers at the CIF-SS Eastern Division Championships last weekend, capturing the 215-pound championship to help the Chargers to a seventh-place showing.

He went a perfect 5-0 on the weekend and capped it off with a first-period pin in the championship matchup to punch his ticket to next week’s Master’s Meet.

Meanwhile, Horton dominated both ends of the pool and filled up the stat sheet for the Dons to power them to the CIF-SS Division 2 Semifinals.

She began the week with five goals, five assists, six exclusions earned and four steals in a 14-13 triple-overtime victory over Edison and followed that up with four goals, four exclusions earned and two field blocks in a 13-12 quarterfinal win over Temple City.

The boys honorable mentions were Luis Campos (SM Soccer), Yael Solano (SM Soccer), Teke Meisel (Cate Soccer), Baylor Wilson (Laguna Soccer), Brody Green (SM Basketball) and Koji Hefner (SM Basketball).

The girls honorable mentions were Charlotte Raisin (SM Water Polo), Kindah Ahmad-Reda (DP Basketball), Eden Wynne (Bishop Basketball), Amalia Castaneda (Carp Basketball) and Yoselyn Lara (Carp Soccer).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
