Local soccer standouts Evelyn Lara of Carpinteria High and Kamil Abdul-Nafeo of Cate School shined last week en route to being named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
The pairing was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Lara capped off the regular season with a pair of goals for the Warriors in their 2-0 victory over Santa Paula last week.
With that shutout win, Carpinteria High clinched a Citrus Coast League championship as it heads into the CIF-SS postseason.
Meanwhile, Abdul-Nafeo also scored two goals for the Rams in a 4-2 win over Thacher in last week’s regular-season finale.
That victory capped off a dominant, undefeated Tri-Valley League season where Cate went 8-0 en route to the league title.
The girls honorable mentions were Jules Horton (SB Water Polo), Haley Hubbs (Bishop Soccer), Lanaya Solis (SB Soccer) and Chloe Waltz (Providence Basketball).
The boys honorable mentions were Ethan Ono (DP Wrestling), Evan Pinsker (DP Basketball), Micah Smith (Carp Basketball) and Blake Lee (SB Basketball).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
