Laguna Blanca soccer’s Baylor Wilson and San Marcos basketball’s Jada Ahmad put up big performances last week en route to winning the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week awards.
The pairing was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Wilson continued his hot start to the season by filling up the stat sheet for the Owls in a pair of wins last week, playing a part in all 13 of the team’s goals.
He began the week with three goals and an assist in a 4-0 victory over Bishop Diego, and followed that up with a whopping four goals and five assists in a 9-1 rout of Villanova Prep.
Meanwhile, Ahmad led the Royals to a 3-1 record last week by averaging just under 19 points per game.
Her top scoring output came in a 67-23 win over Cabrillo in which she scored 24 points to outscore the opposition by herself. She also poured in 21 points in a 50-35 win over Lompoc.
The boys honorable mentions were Owen Horn (SB Basketball), Levi Oaks (SB Basketball), Jackson Steele (Cate Basketball), Logan Stevens (DP Soccer), Irving Garcia (SB Soccer) and Ricky Olivo (SM Soccer).
The girls honorable mentions were Jeisa Coronado (Bishop Basketball), Jules Horton (SB Water Polo), Bethany King (SM Water Polo), Alyssa Ortiz (SB Soccer), Yoselyn Lara (Carp Soccer) and Callie Labistour (Carp Soccer).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
