San Marcos cross country standouts Elsie Tuttle and Wyatt Degner ran their way to the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors last week.

The duo was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Tuttle once again led a strong team effort for the Royals at the CIF-SS Division 3 prelim race last week, placing third individually with a time of 17:37.
While her time helped San Marcos take first place in its heat and punch its ticket to the CIF Finals meet, it also made her the third-fastest racer in the history of the girls cross country program.
Meanwhile, Degner crossed the finish line in 15:05 to come in fifth place in the CIF-SS Division 3 prelim race.
His time was good enough to advance as an individual to the CIF Finals meet, and also earned him a spot as the second-fastest boy in San Marcos cross country history.
The girls honorable mentions were Jacqueline Guadian (Carp Cross Country), Natalie Chan (Bishop Tennis) and Haley Hubbs (Bishop Tennis).
The boys honorable mentions were Owen Abbott (DP Cross Country), Grant Nelson (DP Water Polo) and Koa Zertuche (DP Water Polo).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
