San Marcos senior standouts Cole Dominguez and Charlotte Hastings put together strong weeks last week to earn the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors.

Dominguez, a running back for the football team, and Hastings, one of the go-to outside hitters for the volleyball squad, were honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Hastings began her week with 13 kills in a sweep over Rio Mesa and followed that up with a match-high 19 kills in a five-set victory over crosstown rival Santa Barbara High.
She has been one of the go-to outside hitters for the Royals, who remain undefeated in Channel League play at 5-0 and hold an overall record of 12-2.
Dominguez, meanwhile, had a monster game on the ground in San Marcos’ dramatic 47-41 overtime loss to Buena last Friday.
The running back took 29 carries for 205 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, including the game-tying score to send it into overtime in the final seconds.
The girls honorable mentions were Taylor Grant (DP Flag Football), Victoria Aldana (SM Flag Football), Rio Chesluk (SM Flag Football), Oyin Opawumi (Cate Volleyball), Blake Saunders (SB Volleyball) and Iyla Herrick (DP Cross Country).
The boys honorable mentions were Brody Green (SM Football), Micah Barnhart (SB Football), Stefano Picoletti (Carp Water Polo), Oliver Kelly (SB Water Polo) and Max Soto (Carp Cross Country).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
