The seniors are standouts on the gridiron for the Chargers, with Malik Anderson playing defensive end for the tackle football team and Hurley shining as the flag football team’s quarterback.

Malik Anderson wreaked havoc on the Royal Highlanders in last week’s 19-0 victory, Dos Pueblos’ first of the season.

He totaled 10 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, one punt block, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery to help the Charger defense pitch a shutout.

While Malik Anderson limited the scoring last week, Hurley was busy filling up the stat sheet on the offensive side of the ball for the Chargers.

She threw for 10 touchdowns in a pair of victories, tossing five in a 56-6 win over Santa Ynez before throwing five more in a 53-0 rout of Rio Mesa in the team’s Channel League opener.

The boys honorable mentions were John Michael Flint (Bishop Football), Jake Magid (SM Water Polo), Paolo Borgioli (SB Water Polo), Stefano Piccoletti (Carp Water Polo) and Phillip Contakes (DP Cross Country).

The girls honorable mentions were Addison Low (DP Volleyball), Sophie Otte (Bishop Volleyball), Rio Chesluk (SM Flag Football) and Kindah Ahmad-Reda (DP Flag Football).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
