Laguna Blanca’s Bennett Sullivan, Dos Pueblos’ Linnea Clapinski Named Athletes of the Week

Laguna Blanca swim’s Bennett Sullivan and Dos Pueblos lacrosse’s Linnea Clapinski shined in the postseason last week to earn the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors.

The pairing was honored at the final SBART Press Luncheon of the school year at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Sullivan played a critical role in the Owls coming in third place of 52 schools at the CIF-SS Division 3 Championship meet. He contributed to 121 of the team’s 170.5 points.

He was a member of the CIF champion 4×50 freestyle and 4×100 freestyle relay teams, and individually, he placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 IM.

Meanwhile, Clapinski started her week in dramatic fashion with five goals, including the game-winner in overtime of an 8-7 victory over Glendale in the CIF-SS Division 3 Quarterfinals.

She followed that up with a team-high six goals in a back-and-forth 12-10 CIF-SS Semifinal loss to Oaks Christian.

The boys honorable mentions were Tyson Deveze (Laguna Volleyball), Liam Knezevic (Laguna Volleyball), Benicio Duarte (SB Volleyball), Jack Finneran (DP Lacrosse) and Danny Perez (DP Lacrosse).

The girls honorable mentions were Stella Lawler (DP Lacrosse), Kacey Hurley (DP Softball), Taylor Steelman (SM Swim), Sierra Tallman (SM Swim) and Emi Kanda Gleeson (Cate Swim).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
