The San Marcos duo of Charlotte Hastings/Paige Hoadley and Santa Barbara High’s Malachi Johnston showed up on big stages last week and were named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

Hastings and Hoadley, a girls beach volleyball pairing, and Johnston, a track & field standout, were honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
The No. 3 duo for the Royals played a key role in the team’s 3-2 victory over Oaks Christian last week in the opening round of the CIF-SS Div. 1 playoffs.
With the overall match tied at 2-2, Hastings and Hoadley won their first set and climbed back from down 20-15 in set two to clinch a spot in the CIF-SS Quarterfinals for San Marcos.
Johnston continued his stellar season in the throws for the Dons with a pair of first-place finishes at the Santa Barbara County Championships.
The junior finished atop the leaderboard in the shot put with a throw of 48-9 and the discus with an impressive mark of 143-3.
The boys honorable mentions were Quinn Pullen (Cate Baseball), Peter Lehman (Cate Baseball), Seth Tedeschi (DP Baseball), Jetner Welch (SB Baseball), Nick Malesky (Bishop Volleyball), Hayes Costner (SB Volleyball), Elio Taha/Lucas Martin (Carp Tennis).
