San Marcos’ Logan Patterson Deakyne, Dos Pueblos’ Anastasia Brunner Named Athletes of the Week

San Marcos track & field’s Logan Patterson Deakyne and Dos Pueblos softball’s Anastasia Brunner shined all throughout the week en route to being named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

The pairing was honored at the SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe on Monday.

Patterson Deakyne led the charge for the Royals in their first-place showing at the Crosstown Showdown meet against Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara High.

Individually, he placed first in the 400-meter race and the 300-meter hurdles. He was also a member of the first-place 4×400-meter relay team. Later in the weekend, he placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles at the Stanford Invite.

Meanwhile, Brunner dominated at the plate to lead her Chargers to a 4-1 week that included a sweep of rival Santa Barbara High.

The junior went 13-for-19 across the five games, driving in six runs and scoring nine of her own. The big week also included a pair of 4-for-4 performances against the Dons and Burroughs High.

The boys honorable mentions were Peter Lehman (Cate Baseball), Quinn Pullen (Cate Baseball), Noah Grant (DP Volleyball), John Michael Flint (Bishop Volleyball), Matteo Burdick (SM Volleyball) and Orion Prewarski (DP Lacrosse).

The girls honorable mentions were Brooklyn Hedricks (DP Softball), Liv Plourde (SM Lacrosse), Victoria Aldana (SM Lacrosse), Reagan Arnold (DP Lacrosse), Maia Holmes (Cate Lacrosse) and Avery Leck (SM Track & Field).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
