The San Marcos girls beach volleyball pairing of Josie Gamberdella and Cora Loomer and Dos Pueblos track & field’s Cullen Gully put together impressive performances last week and were named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.



The three student-athletes were honored at the SBART Press Luncheon on Monday at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Gamberdella and Loomer dominated at the No. 1 court for the Royals last week, going 3-0 in key Channel League victories over Oxnard, Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara High.
The duo won all three of its matchups in straight sets, including an impressive 21-0 win over Oxnard.
Meanwhile, Gully made meet history at the Don Green Invitational, setting individual meet records in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter races with times of 2:01.56 and 4:20.13, respectively.
The standout Charger was also a member of the first-place and meet-record distance medley relay team. He rounded out the weekend with a second-place finish in the 400-meter race.
The girls honorable mentions were Anastasia Brunner (DP Softball), Victoria Aldana (SM Lacrosse), Avery Leck (SM Track & Field), Vivian Huskins (Carp Track & Field) and Averi Alexander (Carp Track & Field).
The boys honorable mentions were Mason Crang (SM Baseball), David Burkholder (SM Baseball), John Michael Flint (Bishop Volleyball), Kawin Ramko (DP Volleyball) and Teddy Vigna (DP Golf).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
