Dos Pueblos’ Zach Gesswein and Kaitlyn Ashby each shined on the diamond last week en route to being named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

The baseball/softball duo will be honored at next week’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe, as there is no luncheon this week due to Spring Break.
Gesswein led the Dos Pueblos baseball team to three big wins last week with a two-game sweep of rival San Marcos and a midweek victory over Pacifica.
The senior catcher went 6-for-8 with two RBI and four runs scored against the crosstown Royals and added an RBI single in the team’s 2-0 win over the Tritons.
Meanwhile, Ashby tossed a pair of complete games to power Dos Pueblos softball to league victories over Buena and San Marcos.
The right-hander allowed two hits and struck out six in a 7-1 win over Buena before allowing five hits and three runs, all in just one inning, in a complete-game win over San Marcos.
The boys honorable mentions were Derek Brunet (DP Baseball), Seth Tedeschi (DP Baseball), Noah Grant (DP Volleyball), Logan Patterson Deakyne (SM Track), Scott Nightingale (DP Golf), Graham Chapman (SB Golf), Jack Finneran (DP Lacrosse) and Orion Prewarski (DP Lacrosse).
The girls honorable mentions were Victoria Aldana (SM Lacrosse), Liv Plourde (SM Lacrosse), Linnea Clapinski (DP Lacrosse), Eloise Shea (DP Lacrosse), Anna Fittipaldi (Bishop Softball) and Harper Wolfe Lyons (DP Track).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
