Dos Pueblos’ Jack Finneran, Santa Barbara’s Elina Stump Named Athletes of the Week

Dos Pueblos lacrosse’s Jack Finneran and Santa Barbara High track & field’s Elina Stump turned in big performances last week to earn this week’s Santa Barbara Athlete of the Week honors.

The pairing was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Finneran had a pair of strong offensive games to power the Chargers to two non-league victories and an early-season record of 3-0.

He began the week with five goals in a 9-7 victory over Sierra Canyon and followed that up with four goals and four assists in a 19-10 win over Palisades Charter.

Meanwhile, Stump started her season on a high note for the Dons in a quad-meet against Cate, Righetti and St. Bonaventure.

Stump registered first-place finishes in the long jump and 100-meter race while also earning first place as a member of both the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relay squads.

The boys honorable mentions are Andy Keenan (SM Golf), Aiden Alcaraz (Carp Baseball), Quinn Pullen (Cate Baseball), Derek Brunet (DP Baseball), Stone Saunders (DP Baseball), Jesus Campuzano (Carp Volleyball), Alan Maya (Carp Volleyball) and Matteo Burdick (SM Volleyball).

The girls honorable mentions are Victoria Aldana (SM Lacrosse), Reagan Arnold (DP Lacrosse), Stella Lawler (DP Lacrosse), Kayla Aguilar (SM Softball), Tara Gregson (Bishop Softball), Vivian Huskins (Carp Track & Field), Averi Alexander (Carp Track & Field) and Izzy Scott (Carp Swim).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
