The pairing was honored at the SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe on Monday.

Battle was a menace on both ends of the floor in the Dons’ 73-37 rout of San Marcos to clinch an outright Channel League championship title.

The senior guard dropped 16 points, hauled in eight rebounds, tallied two blocks and forced several turnovers to lead his team to one of its best defensive performances of the year.

Battle and the Dons will begin their CIF-SS Div. 1 title run on Wednesday, hitting the road to take on St. Anthony High in the opener.

Meanwhile, Wigo led her Chargers to an 11-6 victory over Centennial in the first game of the CIF-SS Div. 1 playoffs last week.

Wigo scored five goals to provide the difference between the two squads in the playoff showdown.

She will look to keep it up in Dos Pueblos’ second-round game against JSerra on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Elings Aquatic Center.

The boys honorable mentions were Sammy Medel (Carp Basketball), Shane Grant (DP Basketball), Wyatt Gardiner (DP Basketball), Coulter Jay (DP Basketball) and Eliot Gray (SM Soccer).

The girls honorable mentions were Juliana Horton (SB Water Polo), Zeina Matni (SM Soccer), Carly Letendre (DP Basketball), Jamaica Cook (Carp Basketball) and Sam Jimenez (Cate Basketball).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
