There is no luncheon on Monday due to the holiday, so Marin and Kendig will be honored at next Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Marin has been a scoring machine for the Rams all season long, and that trend continued in the team’s two CIF-SS Div. 1 playoff matchups last week.

The junior striker scored a pair of goals in a 2-1 win over El Toro in a first-round matchup and followed that up with two more goals, including an overtime game-winner, in a 2-1 victory over Pasadena to advance to the quarterfinals.

Kendig followed up her individual Channel League title with an eighth-place finish at 135 pounds at the CIF-SS Eastern Division Tournament to clinch a spot in the CIF Masters Tournament.

She went 4-3 on the weekend with all four wins coming by pin, scoring 14 of the team’s 35 points to finish in 28th place out of 63 total schools.

The boys honorable mentions were Luke Zuffelato (SB Basketball), Marcus Scudder (Cate Basketball), Sebastian Reed (Carpinteria Basketball) and Jon Corona (SB Wrestling).

Meanwhile, the girls honorable mentions were Megan Garner (DP Water Polo), Kindah Ahmad-Reda (DP Basketball), Linnea Clapinski (DP Lacrosse) and Taylor Grant (DP Basketball).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
