Local basketball standouts Luke Zuffelato and Carly Letendre filled up the stat sheets over the Winter Break en route to being named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
Santa Barbara High’s Zuffelato and Dos Pueblos’ Letendre were honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon.
Zuffelato was a scoring machine for the Dons during the break, averaging 27 points across 10 games including several impressive performances at the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic.
The senior poured in 31 points and drilled a game-winning buzzer-beater to take down powerhouse Sierra Canyon. Just a few days later, he hit his second game-winner in as many games to finish off a 24-point game in an overtime win over Tucson.
Meanwhile, Letendre led her team to several big wins throughout the break, including a 20-point game in a Channel League victory over Rio Mesa.
She also tallied 20 points in a win over Oaks Christian and added on 22 points in a 64-51 victory over Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks.
The boys honorable mentions were Crew Sjovold (Bishop Basketball), Brody Green (SM Basketball), Aiden Alcaraz (Carp Basketball), Wyatt Gardiner (DP Basketball), Jose Ramirez (SM Soccer), Baylor Wilson (Laguna Soccer) and Brandon Velasquez (DP Wrestling).
The girls honorable mentions were Evelyn Lara (Carp Soccer), Jeisa Coronado (Bishop Basketball), Dayzia Mendoza (SB Basketball), Bethany King (SM Water Polo), Dev Wigo (DP Water Polo), Marina Brown (SM Water Polo) and Makenna Stuart (SM Water Polo).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
