Cate basketball’s Marcus Scudder and Dos Pueblos soccer’s Maleka Wilcox turned in stellar individual performances last week and were named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

The pairing was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Scudder began the week in style, dropping 27 points and drilling a game-winning buzzer-beater to power the Rams to a 58-56 rivalry win over Bishop Diego.
He followed that up with 14 points in a win over Villanova Prep and 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals in a convincing victory over Nordhoff.
Wilcox has been a key piece of the Chargers’ season and helped them to a fourth-place spot with four games left on the schedule.
Last week, Wilcox assisted on all four of Dos Pueblos’ goals in a 4-0 victory over Ventura High.
The boys honorable minions were Koji Hefner (SM Basketball), George Marin (Cate Soccer), Baylor Wilson (Laguna Blanca Soccer), Miguel Greenberg (DP Soccer) and Cesar Jaime (Carp Soccer).
Meanwhile, the girls honorable mentions were Juliana Horton (SB Water Polo), Jaymi Coronado (Bishop Basketball), Dayzia Mendoza (SB Basketball), Jamaica Cook (Carp Basketball) and Charlotte Cooney (Carp Basketball).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
