San Marcos’ Hefner and Carpinteria High’s Cook will be honored at next Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

There was no luncheon on Monday due to Thanksgiving break.

Hefner opened up the week as the team’s leading scorer with 21 points in a 67-57 loss to Oaks Christian.

He followed that up with a career night, piling on a whopping 47 points and 24 rebounds while dominating the paint in a 96-73 victory over Santa Paula.

Meanwhile, Cook was also a dominant force down low for the Warriors in both of their games last week.

She began the season with a 12-point, 20-rebound performance in a 49-22 win over Cate and continued that success with 24 points and 15 rebounds in a lopsided 63-23 victory over Royal.

The boys honorable mentions were Brody Green (SM Basketball), George Marin (Cate Soccer), Jose Ramirez (SM Soccer) and Bryan Berreto (SB Soccer).

The girls honorable mentions were Charlotte Cooney (Carp Basketball), Dayzia Mendoza (SB Basketball), Jeisa Coronado (Bishop Basketball), Alina King (DP Water Polo) and Ella Grube (SM Water Polo).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
