Dos Pueblos’ Sagarika Manian, Santa Barbara’s Nico Tassos Named Athletes of the Week

Dos Pueblos golf’s Sagarika Manian and Santa Barbara High cross country’s Nico Tassos turned in stellar individual performances to earn the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors.

The pairing was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Manian capped off her historic career as a Channel League golfer by capturing her fourth straight Channel League Individual Championship.

She shot an eight-over-par 80 over 18 holes on River Ridge’s par 72 course, finishing three strokes ahead of the pack to clinch the four-peat.

Meanwhile, Tassos led the Dons at the highly competitive Mt. San Antonio College Invitational over the weekend.

Tassos crossed the finish line first in the boys Division 2 race, ending with a strong time of 16:03. Santa Barbara High placed ninth as a team.

The girls honorable mentions were Mel Mayo (DP Tennis), Caitlyn Buist/Nicole Buist (SB Tennis), Ivy Huang (Cate Tennis), Lisa Hasebe/Jade Wang (Cate Tennis), Eliana Urzua (Bishop Volleyball), Karina Urzua (Bishop Volleyball), Liliana Rodriguez (DP Flag Football), Kindah Ahmad-Reda (DP Flag Football).

The boys honorable mentions were Kai Mault (SB Football), Simon Alexander (DP Football), Brady Walbridge (DP Football), Will Stuart (SM Water Polo), Sam Rich (SM Water Polo), Lucas Nueshul (DP Water Polo) and Gage Minne (SM Cross Country).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
