Dos Pueblos’ Ivan Velez, San Marcos’ Victoria Aldana Named Athletes of the Week

Dos Pueblos football’s Ivan Velez and Victoria Aldana of San Marcos flag football turned in big performances last week en route to being named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

The pairing was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Velez played a big role in the Chargers’ key 29-21 Tri-County League victory to help the team remain in the playoff hunt.

As the team’s leading wide receiver, Velez hauled in six catches for 187 yards and a touchdown. He also added an interception on the final play of the game.

Aldana put together several impressive games in the Channel League Tournament last week to lead her team to a second-place finish.

After throwing for 217 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Rio Mesa, the freshman accumulated 289 yards and three touchdowns in a semifinal win over Dos Pueblos. She also threw three touchdowns against Oxnard in the championship game.

The girls honorable mentions were Charlotte Hastings (SM Volleyball), Kinda Ahmad-Reda (DP Flag Football), Brooklyn Hedricks (DP Flag Football) and Rio Chesluk (SM Flag Football).

Meanwhile, the boys honorable mentions were Amir Dendy (SBCC Football), Kai Mault (SB Football), Bode Fauskee (SB Football), Sawyer Kelly (Carp Football), Simon Alexander (DP Football) and Lucas Neushul (DP Water Polo).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
