Bishop Diego’s Oscar Mauia, Dos Pueblos’ Liliana Rodriguez Named Athletes of the Week

Bishop Diego football’s Oscar Mauia and Dos Pueblos flag football’s Liliana Rodriguez led their teams to big wins last week and were rewarded as the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

The pair of football standouts were honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Mauia paced the offensive attack in a much-needed 26-0 win over Camarillo to begin play in the rugged Marmonte League.

The junior running back took 15 carries for 150 yards and three of the team’s four touchdowns in the victory.

Rodriguez was efficient and effective under center in the Chargers’ 20-6 win over rival San Marcos, completing 20-of-25 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns.

She followed up that performance by throwing for eight total passing touchdowns across three games at the Coastal Clash Tournament over the weekend, where Dos Pueblos placed second.

The girls honorable mentions were Dayzia Mendoza (SB Flag Football), Cate Bishop (DP XC), Caroline Kenny (Laguna Blanca Tennis), Halle Rillie (DP Volleyball), Kira Elliott (SB Volleyball) and Elena Thomas (SM Volleyball).

Meanwhile, the boys honorable mentions were Quinn Donnell (SM Football), Nate Jones (SM Football), Simon Alexander (DP Football), Kaleb Williams (DP Football), Eamon Gordon (DP XC), Lucas Neushul (DP Water Polo) and Shane Davis (SB Water Polo).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
