Santa Barbara’s Kai Mault, Dos Pueblos’ Halle Rillie Earn Athlete of the Week Honors

Santa Barbara High football’s Kai Mault and Dos Pueblos volleyball’s Halle Rillie led their teams to big wins last week en route to being named this week’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

The standout pairing was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Mault put the Dons on his shoulders in a 28-21 win over Moorpark in a battle of undefeated teams at Peabody Stadium last week.

The senior wideout and defensive back hauled in seven catches for 189 yards and two touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, he hauled in an interception and returned it for an 80-yard pick-six.

Rillie was in the middle of the action in a pair of Charger wins last week, beginning with a sweep of Buena where she collected 26 assists, 10 digs and eight kills.

She followed that up with a big match in a four-set win over Oxnard, filling up the stat sheet with 25 assists, 17 digs and six kills.

The boys honorable mentions were Kaleb Williams (DP Football), Oscar Mauia (Bishop Football), Gabe Villa (Bishop Football), Diego Pedroza (SM Football) and Will Stuart (SM Water Polo).

The girls honorable mentions were Dayzia Mendoza (SB Flag Football), Victoria Aldana (SM Flag Football), Rio Chesluk (SM Flag Football), Addie Low (DP Volleyball), Charlotte Hastings (SM Volleyball) and Blake Saunders (SB Volleyball).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
