Local football standouts Bode Fauskee and Rio Chesluk put together big performances en route to being named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
Fauskee of Santa Barbara High football and Chesluk of San Marcos flag football will be honored at next week’s SBART press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
There is no luncheon this week due to Labor Day.
In last week’s big 47-23 win over Valencia, Fauskee played a key role on both sides of the ball.
As the team’s main running back, the senior carried the ball 13 times for 122 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Fauskee also recorded six tackles, one quarterback hurry, one pass breakup and a fumble recovery for a touchdown on the defensive side of the ball.
Chesluk had several big performances last week, including a game with 62 receiving yards and a touchdown while also hauling in an interception in a 12-7 loss to Ventura.
Over the weekend, Chesluk was named the Ventura County Tournament MVP after helping lead her team to the championship win over Dos Pueblos.
In two games on Saturday, Chesluk hauled in five receiving touchdowns, threw a touchdown and came away with an interception.
The boys honorable mentions were Leo Dalporto (Laguna Blanca Football), Eamon Gordon (DP Cross Country), Sam Rich (SM Water Polo), Lucas Neushul (DP Water Polo), Grant Nelson (DP Water Polo) and Aiden Alcaraz (Carp. Water Polo).
The girls honorable mentions were Halle Rillie (DP Volleyball), Karina Urzua (Bishop Diego Volleyball), Atasha Black (DP Volleyball), Dayzia Mendoza (SB Flag), Alyssa Ortiz (SB Flag), Lily Rodriguez (DP Flag) and Caroline Kenny (Laguna Blanca Tennis).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
