San Marcos’ Remi Boykin, Alina Stapf Named Athletes of the Week

A pair of San Marcos Royals took home this week’s Athlete of the Week after big performances in impressive victories.

San Marcos football’s Remi Boykin and San Marcos volleyball’s Alina Stapf were honored at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.

Boykin led the Royals to a big 23-13 win over Santa Ynez last week, making an impact in all facets of the game en route to being named the Norm Clevenger MVP Award.

The sophomore hauled in four catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns to go along with a big pass breakup in the second half.

Stapf also showed up in a big matchup for San Marcos, collecting 20 digs and seven aces in the team’s sweep of crosstown rival Dos Pueblos.

She also was in the middle of the action over the weekend when the Royals won the Challenger Bracket of the San Luis Obispo Tournament.

The boys honorable mentions were Grant Nelson (DP Water Polo), Sam Rich (SM Water Polo), Will Stuart (SM Water Polo), Jake Ehlers (Carpinteria Water Polo), Cole Dominguez (SM Football) and Laird Finkel (SB Football).

The girls honorable mentions were Peyton Sperling (SM Flag Football), Sofia Lopez (SB Flag Football), Dayzia Mendoza (SB Flag Football), Halle Rillie (DP Volleyball), Addison Low (DP Volleyball), Gwen Chenoweth (SB Volleyball), Elena Thomas (SM Volleyball) and Charlotte Hastings (SM Volleyball).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
