A pair of Bishop Diego Cardinals earned the first round of Athlete of the Week honors for the 2024-25 school year last week.
Eliana Urzua of Bishop girls volleyball and Tua Rojas of Bishop football led their teams to strong performances en route to the award.
Urzua, a senior UCLA commit, powered the Cardinals to a second-place finish at the 29-team Bishop Diego Cardinal Classic over the weekend in the Thunderdome.
The outside hitter was named the Tournament MVP after collecting a whopping 117 kills to go along with 21 aces.
On the gridiron, Rojas, a junior, led an efficient offensive attack in the Cardinals’ 34-13 win over Salesian in the season opener last Friday.
Rojas went 9-for-12 through the air for 160 yards and tossed four touchdowns en route to the victory.
The girls honorable mentions were Hannah Remick (DP Flag Football), Brooklyn Hedricks (DP Flag Football), Dayzia Mendoza (SB Flag Football), Grace Stone (SM Volleyball), Chloe Gidney (Laguna Blanca Volleyball) and Valeria Bellodas (SBCC Volleyball).
For the boys, the honorable mentions were Sam Rich (SM Water Polo), Laird Finkel (SB Football), Nate Jones (SM Football), Brody Branstetter (SM Football) and Cole Dominguez (SM Football).
